These trichromatic paintings (watercolor, 5 x7") are based on a lessons in Eric Wiegardt's book
Watercolor Free and Easy in which he suggests trying different color triads other than just red, yellow, and blue. In
Trichromatic 1, above, I used burnt sienna instead of red with my french ultramarine blue and transparent yellow. I love the feel of the sky.
In
Trichromatic 2, I used Payne's gray instead of blue with my favorite red (Holbien Brown Madder) and yellow (Bumblebee yellow).
My dear friend Mairi gave me a signed copy of Eric's book in 1997 because she could see, even way back then, the looseness, freedom, and simplicity of my work.
